About Oaken	English (USA)
This list is open to any member of the Society for Creative Anachronism or others interested in the Oaken Region of the Middle Kingdom. It is a general discussion and announcement list for events, activities, and SCA groups in this area (modern-world Ohio and Kentucky, USA). Any reasonable discussion topic is welcome, so long as it is of interest to SCA participants in this area. Please refrain from posting: Intentionally profane, inflammatory, or defamatory material Any racial or ethnic epithets, slurs, or hate speech Announcements of an overtly commercial nature (see below) Personal attacks or unsubstantiated rumors Religious or political solicitations Virus warnings or chain letters (see below) In other words, please behave as an honorable Lord or Lady of these Current Middle Ages. So that this list is suitable for younger members, please try to keep language at a "Rated G" or "Rated PG" level. With regard to "commercial" announcements, the basic guideline is this: Mentioning a commercial product or service is not a problem, so long as it is in the context of a broader SCA-related discussion. For example, in a thread on 15th Century costuming, it is perfectly okay to say, "By the way, the Acme Fabric Company has really great brocades." This is even okay if you happen to own the Acme Fabric Company. What is not okay is to post messages that are purely there to push a product, service, or company, and which have little or nothing to do with an ongoing discussion thread. It is also not okay to post advertising that is unrelated to SCA activities. This list is configured to filter out most email attachments and to convert HTML to plain text. That makes it extremely unlikely that a virus would be transmitted by this list. If you believe you have been infected, please send an e-mail to the list owner, not to the list. Many virus "warnings" are actually just hoaxes. In any case, they are off-topic for this list. Please do not post them here. This list is not moderated, but it is monitored. Those who post inappropriate material will be warned, first privately then publicly, and if the problem persists, they will be banned from the list. Subscriptions do not require approval, but you will receive an e-mail to which you must reply in order to confirm the subscription. That prevents people from subscribing others against their wishes. This list is not an official publication of the Society for Creative Anachronism nor of the Middle Kingdom, and does not delineate SCA or Kingdom policy. Posting information here does not constitute "notification" of official business as defined in the SCA governing documents. To post a message to all the list members, send email to oaken@lists.4th.com. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to Oaken
Subscribe to Oaken by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This is a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Your email address:   Your name (optional):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
